Before everyone heads out of town, we'll be meeting up at a bar for brunch and the first World Cup match of 2022 (Qatar vs. Ecuador). Kickoff is scheduled at 10am Central Time. We'll be meeting at Aussie's (306 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78704). It's a large sports bar with volleyball courts that can rented out for $30/hour. If you aren't interested in watching the World Cup, you can spend your time outside playing volleyball or just socializing.
Where to Stay.
There is no official block of hotel rooms or Airbnbs to stay in, but we have recommendations for you!
Q2 Stadium is pretty far north, of downtown, but there is pretty convenient public transportation to the stadium. The Light Rail line by the convention center downtown or the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood will get you to the stadium in about 40 minutes.
The East Cesar Chavez neighborhood is the trendiest area in Austin. "The Drag" on the west side of the University of Texas at Austin's campus is also a popular spot with lots of nightlife options, and a convenient bus to the stadium. See below for more info about public transportation.
FAQs.
Q: Is this event family friendly?
A: Absolutely!
Q: How do I get around Austin?
A: If you don't have a car, there are still plenty of options to get around the city. Uber and Lyft are very popular in Austin, and you shouldn't have trouble getting a ride anywhere in the city (for a price). If you are looking to travel on a budget, their public transit is solid. There is a light rail line that connects Downtown Austin, East Cesar Chavez, and Crestview to the stadium. There is also a convenient bus (#3 or #803) that connects you from Downtown Austin through "The Drag" immediately west of the University of Texas at Austin, and all neighborhoods between Q2 stadium in North Austin. Buses are only $1.25, and the light rail is $3.50. You can also purchase a day pass on the bus for $2.50. For $7.00 you can purchase a day pass for all buses and light rail. You can find more info about purchasing fares and download the app via the CapMetro page here. Keep in mind, the last public transit option from the Stadium to downtown is at about 11:30pm, so plan your trip accordingly.
Q: I don't know much about the team, is that ok?
A: Everyone started somewhere with their Effzeh fandom. Some of us were born into it, others adopted it just this year. We really hope you'll feel welcome regardless of your background. You don't have to be a diehard fan to join us.
Q: You really didn't answer my question. How do I contact you?
A: You can email us at fckoeln.us at gmail or tweet at us at @fckoelnUSA. We're happy to answer any questions you might have!
